Lynx Finalize Conference Play

The Rhodes college field hockey team was back in Memphis to finish their regular season games. On Saturday November 2, 2024, they faced the Centre College Colonels. This game honored Morgans Message which brings awareness to mental health in athletes. The following day they played the Sewanee Tigers on November 3, 2024, for their senior day, celebrating their 7 seniors. This exciting weekend ended in two wins for the Lynx, making the team undefeated regular season champions.  

RECAP: RHODES VS. Centre College 

Rhodes took an early lead with a goal by Alder Dickey at 8:36, from a deflection into the net. This was a challenging, neck-in-neck match between two determined teams. After lots of intense back and forth play Centre's Ashley Hamilton found the equalizer at 54:21 from a penalty corner. Regular time ended in a 1-1 stalemate. This led to two overtimes where senior, Grace Utz found the cage at 70:22 to secure the win for Rhodes. 

Team Statistics:  

  • Rhodes College: 21 total shots (15 on goal), 5 saves, 14 penalty corners. 

  • Centre College: 6 total shots (6 on goal), 12 saves, 6 penalty corners. 

RECAP: RHODES VS. Sewanee  

Rhodes came into this game with fire on their senior day. This final CFHC conference game was a competitive competition. Layla Anderson started off the scoring at 25:05, giving the Lynx a 1-0 lead at the half. After intense play, RC Kugler deflected the ball into the cage at 44:38. Soon after, Lucky Frederick scored one last time for the Lynx at 48:31, giving them a 3-point lead. Fighting back, the Tigers' Natalie BeVier scored at 49:57, making the final score 3-1.  

Team Statistics:  

  • Rhodes College: 26 total shots (18 on goal), 1 save, 19 penalty corners. 

  • Sewanee: 1 total shot (1on goal), 16 saves, 1 penalty corner. 

Key Weekend Performances:  

  • Grace Utz: Scored a crucial goal during the second OT, securing a win for the Lynx.  

  • Lucy Frederick: Helped Rhodes capitalize on offensive opportunities by providing an assistant and a goal against Sewanee. 

  • Catherine Gluodenis: Had a total of 10 saves throughout the weekend in two high intensity matches, helping to secure the two Rhodes victories.  

Looking Forward: CFHC Tournament  

The Rhodes College field hockey team will travel to Sewanee, Tennessee for the CFHC conference tournament.  After being named regular season champions and receiving the #1 seed Rhodes will play in their first tournament game on Friday November 8, 2024. Be sure to follow along and tune in as the Lynx play in their last few games of their season.
