Lynx Fall to Berry in Season Finale The Rhodes College Football team returned home this week to take on the top team in the SAA, the Berry College Vikings. This would be the final game of the 2024 season, and Senior Day in which 23 seniors were recognized for their dedication and contribution to the program throughout the past 4 years.
Berry began the scoring early in the game with a touchdown pass putting 6 points on the board, but the Lynx rallied to prevent the attempted 2-point conversion. The Rhodes defense continued to stand strong in the first half, only allowing 6 more points by the Vikings on 2 field goals. Senior defensive back
JM Simms made a diving interception on the goal line to prevent a touchdown, the first interception of his career. Unfortunately, the offense was not as effective and they were unable to find the end zone during the entire first half. A rather uneventful first half resulted in a score of 12-0 as both teams headed to the locker room.
Berry came out of the half firing as they scored another touchdown and converted a 2-point conversion to extend their lead to 20-0. However, the Lynx seemed to turn things around as the offense drove down the field and handed to
Robert Daniel to finish the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. The defense forced a three-and-out, and the offense took the field once again, orchestrating a great drive that ended in a 2-yard passing touchdown from
Evan Reeder to TezJioh Knox. This score cut the lead to just 6 heading into the final quarter of the game.
From there, the Berry Vikings took control and began to run away with the game. The Lynx offense was held silent in the 4th quarter and the Vikings found the end zone a few more times, finishing the game with a final score of 48-14.
For the Lynx,
Brent Barlow led the team in receiving yards as he accounted for 5 receptions and 140 yards through the air. This would bring his total season stat line to 40 receptions for 732 yards, both stats shattering his career highs. Defensively,
Jonathan Torres led the team in tackles with 11.
Rhodes Football finishes the season with a final record of 3-7 (2-5) as they continue to rebuild under head coach
Rich Duncan.
