Lynx Finish Post Season Play

The Rhodes College field hockey team remained in Sewanee, Tennessee for the championship game of the CFHC conference tournament. The Mary Washington University Eagles and your Rhodes College Lynx faced off in a competitive match on Sunday November 10, 2024, for the trophy. After a hard-fought and driven game, the Lynx ultimately fell to a 4-6 game. Despite the loss the Rhodes College field hockey team ended their season as regular season champions with a record of 14-6.  

RECAP: RHODES VS. Mary Washington University 

Both teams came into this game with intensity and fire. At 0:52 senior, Grace Utz, scored from a penalty stroke. Mary Washington fought back with a goal at 1:48 by Grayson Scott. Followed by two more goals by Grayson Scott and Emma Bernard at 4:36 and 4:59 to end the first quarter 1-3. Grayson Scott found the back of the net one last time at 22:14 to end the half. The Eagle's Grayson Scott and Mackenzie Proffitt scored two more at 34:46 and 44:34. Shortly after Grace Utz shot and scored for the Lynx. Determined to find the equalizer, Maria Zaporozhski and Elinor West found two final goals at 58:59 and 59:48. To no avail the Lynx lost in a 4-6 match to end their season.

  • Rhodes College: 20 total shots (10 on goal), 15 saves, 9 penalty corners. 

  • Mary Washington University: 30 total shots (21 on goal), 6 saves, 11 penalty corners. 

Key Performances:  

  • Grace Utz Scored two goals and provided an assist, demonstrating her ability to capitalize on offensive opportunities.  

  • RC Kugler and Virginia Shuff Were pivotal in the midfield by providing strong transfers and back tackling to keep the ball out of Rhodes defensive 25.
