The Rhodes college field hockey team traveled to play the Christopher Newport University Captains on October 21, 2024, wrapping up their away games for fall break. This non-conference game posed a challenge for the lynx. Despite hard fought effort and competitive back-and-forth play, the game ended in a 0-4 loss for Rhodes. Nevertheless, the Lynx finished their long weekend with a 2-1 record, both wins in conference play.  

RECAP: RHODES VS. Christopher Newport University   

Both the Lynx and Captains came into this game with intensity. CNU's Delaney Norr put the first point on the board at 8:05, quickly followed by a goal from Riley Iasiello at 10:05, putting the captains ahead. Despite relentless efforts from the Lynx in the second half, Courtney Hughlett found the back of the cage at 33:13, making it 0-3. The Lynx continued to push but Denaly Norr scored her second goal at 49:50 bringing the final score to 0-4, a loss for the Lynx.

• Rhodes College: 12 total shots (9 on goal), 16 saves, 6 penalty corners. 

• Christopher Newport University: 26 total shots (20 on goal), 9 saves, 6 penalty corners. 

Key Performances:  

• Grace Utz: Played a critical role in the midfield by providing offensive opportunities and helped keep the ball out of Rhodes defensive 25.  

• Catherine Gluodenis: Had 16 pivotal saves, preventing any further goals.  

• Ellie Pratka: Demonstrated strong abilities in the backfield by having strong tackles, swift transfers, and passes up the line.  

Looking Forward: Rhodes vs Concordia University and Marian University  

The Rhodes College field hockey team is back in action next weekend as they travel to Wisconsin to resume conference play On Saturday, October 26, 2024. They'll face off against the Concordia University Falcons, followed by a match against the Marian University Sabres on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Cheer on the Lynx as they approach these pivotal CFHC conference games and continue to refine their skills.
