Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kayleigh Doherty '26

Rhodes Women's Soccer Fall To Tigers

An unfortunate loss for Rhodes Women's Soccer against the Sewanee Tigers on October 19, 2024, in Memphis, Tennessee. The Lady Lynx fought long and hard but unfortunately could not find the back of the net as they battled against one of their hardest opponents.

Match Recap: Rhodes College vs. Sewanee The University of the South

While no team dominated over another in the first half of the match, Sewanee was able to draw a hand ball in the box on Rhodes that led to a penalty kick goal for the Tigers. This led to a 1-0 lead for Sewanee in the first half. Rhodes battled against their rivals but came up short after a second goal was scored by The University of the South in the 63rd minute. This led the game to result in a 2-0 loss for the Lady Lynx, their first in 6 games.

Team Statistics:

  • Rhodes College: 3 shots, 5 saves, 2 corner kicks, 12 fouls.
  • Sewanee: 10 shots (7 on goal), 0 saves, 1 corner kick, 10 fouls.

This loss drops Rhodes to second in the SAA, tied with their other rival, Centre College. The Lady Lynx have two more conference games and need both to result in a win to hopefully compete for 1st in the conference, with hope that Sewanee loses.

Looking Forward: Rhodes College vs. Centre College

RCWS will shift their focus to another major opponent, Centre College. Rhodes and Centre have a long hard-fought history, which will make for an exciting game on Sunday, October 20, 2024, on Rhodes' home field. Rhodes has been preparing both mentally and physically for this match, and the score will hopefully reflect that after the Lady Lynx step off the pitch on Sunday.

Historical Match Overview:

After establishing a rivalry like no other in 2007, the Lynx and Colonels have met a total of 25 times since that first game. This fight has left Rhodes with 4 wins, 18 losses, and 3 ties. These two teams most recently played against each other last year when Rhodes beat them in the SAA tournament in the semi-finals in a penalty kick shootout.

Wins: 4

Losses: 18

Ties: 3

Home Record: 3-4-1

Away Record: 1-12-1

Conference Record: 4-11-2

As said before, this will be one of the most important weekends for the Lady Lynx, so fans are encouraged to show out at home on the Rhodes Soccer Field and support the RCWS family as they aim to beat the Colonels.
