Lynx Roll Past Panthers

Rhodes finishes the regular season on a nine-game winning streak.

Birmingham, ALA. (April 17, 2023) -- Rhodes College finished the regular season on Monday on a nine-game wining streak, rolling past the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers 21-5 in a nonconference matchup. It was another balanced attack showcase with nine different Lynx adding to the score. With the win, Rhodes finishes the regular season with a 12-5 (6-0 SAA) record.

Rhodes set the tempo early, winning the first two draw controls and scoring on both offensive opportunities. Chloe Parker tallied the first goal and then found Carina Wesker to put Rhodes up 2-0. Caroline Kardian pulled in the next draw control but BSC gained possession where Margot Peters cut into the Lynx lead with a goal. This would be the only Panther goal of the quarter as the Lynx finished the stretch on a 9-0 scoring run. Parker added another three goals while Anna Erskine and Sierra Anderson each notched two. Nur Hamada ripped a free-position goal before Bari Pinkett added her own free-position tally.

In the second quarter, Pinkett found Chloe for her fifth goal of the game and her 100th career goal, marking a scoring milestone.

The Lynx continued to dominate the remainder of the game, fueled by draw controls and strong defensive pressure. Rhodes outmatched BSC 21-8 on the draw controls with Kardian setting a new game-high at 16 draw controls. The Lynx swarmed the field, outpacing BSC 22-14 on ground balls, and the strong pressure led BSC to only 12-22 on clearing attempts.

Burke and Sophia Horowitz led the team with four groundballs and Emma Norris led the team with two caused turnovers. Emma Bradley and Olivia Wood each recorded two saves on the day.

Chloe Parker and Carina Wesker led scorers with five goals each. Anna Erskine notched a hat trick while Avery Burke and Sierra Anderson added two. Bari Pinkett, Grace Williams, Nur Hamada and Molly Heidrick each added a tally on the day. Burke, Parker and Alex Johnson each dished out two assists.

Rhodes will return to play on Sunday, April 23 when they host the SAA Semifinal Game at 12:00pm CST. Rhodes will play the winner of Friday's SAA Quarterfinal matchup between (4) Centre and (5) Oglethorpe.
