MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 4, 2023) -- Rhodes opened SAA Conference play in dominating fashion, outscoring the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers 23-3. The win moves Rhodes to 2-2 (1-0 SAA) while BSC drops to 0-4 (0-1 SAA).
The Lynx came out hot in the first quarter with freshman
Sophia Horowitz finding the back of the net in the first 30 seconds of the game. Stepping on the gas pedal, Rhodes added another three goals from
Anna Erskine,
Emily Bruner and
Avery Burke before BSC responded with a goal by Brooklyn Hilliard. It was all Lynx for the rest of the first quarter, ending on a 9-0 run with goals coming by Burke, Erskine,
Chloe Parker,
Caroline Kardian,
Molly Martiner and
Carina Wesker.
The Panthers ended their scoring drought five minutes into the second quarter with a free-position goal by Victoria Langevin to make it 13-2. Rhodes and BSC continued to trade goals in the low-scoring second quarter to head into halftime 15-3.
Rhodes controlled the second half of the game, outscoring BSC 8-0 led by two goals each from
Sierra Anderson and Parker. It was a strong offensive showing for the Lynx orchestrated behind Bruner's nine assists. Parker totaled four goals and three assists with freshman
Bari Pinkett scored her first collegiate goal. A total of 12 different Lynx scored at least once with seven players scoring multiple times.
It's a quick turnaround for the Lynx who will host Capital University on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on Mason Field.
