Rhodes Volleyball Drops to Berry in SAA Tournament

The Rhodes College Volleyball Team traveled to Rome, Georgia, to compete in the SAA Volleyball Tournament this weekend. They entered the tournament as the #8 seed and were set to play the #1 seed Berry College Vikings.

The Lynx, facing off against Berry earlier this season, were 0-2 against the Vikings. Playing a tough nationally ranked team, the Lynx faced a major challenge. Rhodes lost the first set to the Vikings, which an early rally by the Vikings sealed to get an early lead, which Rhodes could not work their way back up. The score of set 1 was 16-25. The Lynx again lost set 2, 15-25. After two hard set losses, the Lynx did not put their heads down but instead put up a fight and took the third set from the Vikings with a stellar offensive performance led by Yzzi Dsamou. The Lynx won the set 25-22. Yet, the Berry offensive responded and sealed the match's final set 13- 25, with the Lynx losing in the first round of the SAA championship tournament. Freshman Yzzi Dsamou led the game with 19 kills.

The Lynx volleyball team finished their 2023 season 11-18 and 3-11 in SAA matches. Season leaders for the SAA include Yzzi Dsamou, who has the most kills per set at 3.67. Freshman Emma Clark is number 2 in the conference for most service aces per set at 0.50. Rachel Clarke, freshman middle blocker, is number 3 in the conference in blocks, totaling 75 on the season. Rhodes College wishes senior libero Maggie Mathis the best of luck as she closes out her Rhodes College Volleyball career, finishing with 802 career digs. With impressive underclassmen statistics for the season, the Lynx look to the future, with a young group of athletes still having many years left to compete for Rhodes. The depth of the talented returning players will surely be a factor for years to come for Lynx volleyball, with room to grow and a team to look out for in the future of the Southern Athletic Association.
