This past weekend, Rhodes hosted Birmingham-Southern for Senior Day, Cajunfest, and the final home game of the year. This was a must win game for the Lynx, and a game in which a victory would guarantee a winning season.
The Lynx started strong, scoring on the first drive that lasted over 5 minutes and ended with a 1-yard touchdown run from Robert Daniel. The extra point from
Barrett Buchanan was good, giving the Lynx a quick 7-0 lead. In the 2nd quarter, the Lynx added to the lead with a 5-yard touchdown pass from
Evan Reeder to
Umikoa Kealoha, going up 14-0. With 2 minutes left before halftime, BSC scored and converted for 2 points, taking the game to half with the Lynx leading 14-8.
In the 3rd quarter, a 7-yard catch that fell just short of the goal line by Alex Leblanc set up a 1-yard touchdown run by
Elijah Bane. The two point attempt was no good, but Rhodes went up 20-8. To add even further onto the lead,
Houston Wilhelm connected with
Eli Chadick in the 4th quarter for a 3-yard touchdown and to go up 27-8. With just over 6 minutes left in the game,
Nick Floyd intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for another Lynx touchdown. This score put the Lynx up 34-8, putting the game in the hands of the Lynx defense. The Lynx delivered, and stopped BSC again to secure the Senior Day victory 34-8.
The Lynx had a strong offensive showing on Saturday, with the duo of Reeder and Wilhelm throwing for 127 with 1 touchdown and 70 with 1 touchdown, respectively. Robert Daniel once again led the running game for the Lynx, charting 63 net yards and a touchdown. On the receiving end,
Umikoa Kealoha led the Lynx with 76 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively,
Evan Byrd led the Lynx with 10 total tackles and an interception.
Thomas Conroy logged 7 total tackles, and
Iman Lohrasbi,
Jason Kusibab,
Nick Floyd, and
Nathaniel Pride all recorded tackles for loss.
Hart Penfield and
Gentry Major recorded sacks.
Jonathan Torres had two pass breakups, and
Jason Kusibab forced a fumble.
After this victory against Birmingham Southern, the Lynx are 6-3 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Lynx are now on a bye week, but will finish the season at Berry College on November 11th.
