Rhodes Men's Basketball picked up their 3rd win in a row on Friday night vs Oglethorpe University in the annual Coaches vs Cancer: Suits & Sneakers game! The win improves the Lynx record to 11-4 overall (9-1 at home) and 4-2 in conference play. Pregame, Lynx Seniors
Jefferson Walker and
Koki Wiley were honored for a few career milestones. Walker joined the 100 assists club and Wiley joined the 1,000 points and 200 assists clubs. Wiley is approaching 500 rebounds for his career and would be the 1st Lynx to ever enter the 1,000/500/200 club.
The first half was some of the best basketball Mallory Gymnasium has seen all season. The Lynx and the Stormy Petrels traded baskets the entire half, but a few key factors and the play of
Phil Dotson, gave the Lynx a 50-39 lead at halftime. Dotson played like a man possessed while starting on place of injured Senior
Jalen Essick. He finished the 1st half with 23 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Walker did a great job of distributing the ball in the half and finished with 6 assists (0 turnovers) and 8 points. Wiley wasn't far behind and finished with 7 points and 5 rebounds.
Cass Ramberg provided some excellent minutes off the bench and finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds. The Lynx won the paint, rebounding, and second chance battles in the half.
The 2nd half saw the Lynx separate themselves from the Stormy Petrels despite them continuing to shoot well on the offensive end. Dotson continued his hot streak and finished the game with a career-high 34 points. Walker held a masterclass of the point guard position in the half and finished with a double-double, 17 points and 10 assists (0 turnovers). Walker showed once again why he leads the SAA in turnover/assist ratio. Wiley flirted with a double-double himself, but ultimately finished with a solid line (17 points and 7 rebounds). Ramberg continued to provide valuable minutes off the bench and finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds. The Lynx separated themselves with rebounding and second chance points in the half. They won both battles 44-25 and 31-4. Every single Lynx who recorded playing time had a rebound. Senior
Kris O'Brien hit a turnaround jumper in the final minutes of the game to put the Stormy Petrels away. At the buzzer, the Lynx won 103-84.
The Lynx will be back in action on Sunday at 3pm in a big matchup vs Berry!
