Lynx Tripped Up in SAA Championship

Sewanee defeated Rhodes on Sunday afternoon

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (May 1, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx women's tennis season came to an end on Sunday as they fell to the #7 Sewanee Tigers 5-0 at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro.

Sewanee was the overwhelming favorite coming into the SAA tournament, sitting at 19-3 and ranked #7 in the country. They showed why with a dominant perfomance on Sunday. They swept all three doubles matches, winning 8-3, 8-2, and 8-2 to gain a huge advantage heading into singles play. 

The Tigers took the first two singles matches on courts three and four. Emma Smith, one of three ranked singles players on Sewanee's roster, defeated Emily Holderness 6-0, 6-1. On court four, Ansley Carpenter then took down Emma McHale by an identical 6-0, 6-1 score to clinch the win. With the match in hand, the remaining four singles matches went unfinished. 

The loss gives Rhodes a 15-6 record for the season, the most wins since 2003 when the team went 21-4.
