Lynx Celebrate Senior Day with Run-Rule Win

Rhodes defeated Hendrix 10-1 on Sunday afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 3, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx captured their first SAA series victory of the season with a 10-1 win over Hendrix on Sunday afternoon. The win, the second mercy-rule win of the series for Rhodes, moves the Lynx to 11-16 overall on the year, and 3-9 in SAA competition.

After a scoreless first inning, Hendrix opened up the scoring with a solo home run to left field by Aubrey Lee. All that did was inspire the Lynx offense in the bottom half. With one out, Hannah Grace Roden was hit by a pitch, and promptly stole second. Cam Ferguson then ripped a liner through the left side to score Roden and tie the game. Beth Fleming followed with a single, prompting a pitching change. A walk then loaded the bases, allowing Ferguson to score on a wild pitch. Next up was Leslie Matherne, who laid down a perfect sac bunt to score Fleming. The final run came from a Hannah Schweiger single up the middle that plated Greuel to make the score 4-1.

Madison Keller cruised through the top of the third, giving her offense a chance to pad the lead in the bottom half. With two out and two on, Fleming, normally a pitcher, was able to bloop a single into right field to score both Roden and Madison Bromley to create a 6-1 lead.

Another scoreless frame from Keller led to the final at bat of the day for the Lynx. KT Siekerka drove in Schweiger with a single. After a pitching change, Roden drove in Siekerka and Granberry with a line drive to center. Ferguson then wrapped up the scoring with single up the middle that brought home Roden, making the score 10-1. Keller then took out the Warriors in order in the top of the fifth to secure the mercy-rule win.

Six Lynx recorded multiple hits in this one, led by three from Schweiger. Roden, Ferguson, and Fleming ... the 7, 8, and 9 hole hitters ... each had two hits and two RBI. Keller was magnificent on the mound, going five innings while scattering four hits and one run with five strikeouts.

Following the game, the team recognized their senior class of 2022 ... Leslie Matherne, Taylor Clark, Nikki Greuel, Abby Pons, Madison Keller and Beth Fleming.

Rhodes will wrap up SAA play with a three-game set at Centre next weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
