Lynx Sweep Crosstown Rival

Rhodes defeated Christian Brothers on Tuesday afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 12, 2022) - An unplayable field on the campus of Christian Brothers University led the second game between Rhodes and CBU to be played at Stauffer Field on Tuesday. The Lynx took advantage of the extra home game, dominating the Buccaneers en route to an 11-6 win. The victory moves Rhodes to 20-12-1 on the season.

Christian Brothers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but it would not last long. In the third inning, Ben Wilson and Bryce Anderson delivered back-to-back two-out singles to score a pair for the Lynx. They would then add a third run on a John McNair double in the fourth.

With the game tied in the fifth, Rhodes crossed the plate three more times. Corbin Kinder punched a singled through the left side to score Anderson. Two batters later, with two outs, Dante Messina ripped a comebacker up the middle that brought in Julien Brown and Kinder to make it 6-3.

The Buccaneers refused to give up, scoring two in the sixth to pull within one. They would then tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with a bases loaded single. However, Andy Hanaway was able to get the Lynx out of the jam and strand all three remaining runners.

McNair calmed everyone's nerves in the Rhodes dugout by leading off the eighth inning with a dinger to center field, his eighth of the season. Anderson then added an insurance run with another RBI base hit, driving in Will Heurtin. The Lynx padded their stats in the ninth with a Wood Kimbrough RBI base hit, and a two-run double from Ben Wilson to make the final of 11-6.

Rhodes collected 17 hits in the contest, with all nine starters recording at least one knock. Five different players had multiple hits, with Wilson and Anderson leading the way with three apiece. Eight pitchers took the mound for Rhodes, per the pregame plan from head coach Jeff Cleanthes. Hanaway earned the win with 2.1 innings of shutout baseball.

Rhdoes will travel to Berry this weekend in an important series. The two teams will play a double header on Friday, and a single game on Saturday.
