Lynx Sweep Weekend Series vs. Colonels

Rhodes defeated Centre 3-0 on Sunday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 27, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx took home their second SAA series of the season in sweeping fashion, defeating the Centre Colonels 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win moves Rhodes to 15-10-1 (6-3 SAA) on the season.

Peter York got things started in the first with a leadoff walk and a steal of second base. After moving to third on a groundout, York was then brought in on an RBI single from John McNair to give Rhodes a 1-0 lead. Centre threatened with two men in scoring position in the top of the second, but Rhodes starter CJ Carron struck out Perry Nadreau to quell the threat and maintain the lead.

Things stayed quiet until the bottom of the fourth when the Lynx offense struck again. With one out, Dante Messina tripled home Ben Wilson. Bryce Anderson followed by being hit by a pitch. Anderson then took off for second on a stolen base attempt, and an errant throw from the catcher allowed Messina to score to make it 3-0, which would end up being the final score.

Carron was absolutely locked in on the mound, going so far as to strikeout the side in the sixth inning, and adding another K as the final out of the seventh. Andy Hanaway tossed a scoreless eighth, and then handed the reins to John Fears to close out the ninth in the Lynx win.

Messina had a double, a triple, a run scored and an RBI to lead the offense. Carron was the star of the day, with a final line of seven innings, four hits, zero runs and nine strikeouts.

Rhodes will host Sewanee next weekend, with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm on Saturday.
