Majors March Past Lynx

Millsaps swept the doubleheader against Rhodes on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 26, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx played on their home turf for the first time in a month on Saturday, but the home field advantage didn't take. The Lynx fell to the Millsaps Majors two times, losing game one 8-4, and then game two 8-6. Rhodes now stands at 8-16 (0-8 SAA) on the season.

Game One
Millsaps 8
Rhodes 4

Both team stranded runners in scoring position in the first, but Millsaps did not make the same mistake in the second, scoring twice on a sac fly and a double. The Lynx had a great opportunity to put runs on the board in the bottom half, loading the bases with no out. The next three hitters all popped out to eliminate the threat, however. Three more runs went to Millsaps in the third to make it 5-0. After adding another in the top of the fourth, Rhodes finally answered back. Nikki Greuel singled home Lauren Little to start things off. Madison Granberry then added an RBI on a groundball. KT Siiekerka then drove in a pair with a two-out double to left center to make it 6-4

Millsaps added on in the fifth and one in the seventh to get to eight runs. Rhodes never threatened again, and fell 8-4. .Siekerka had three hits to lead the offense, while three other Lynx had multiple hits.

Game Two
Millsaps 8
Rhodes 6

An error and an infield single gave Millsaps an early 1-0 lead in game two. They would then add a second run in the top of the third on a sac fly. Rhodes responded in the bottom of the third. Greuel walked to lead off and moved to second on a wild pitch. She moved to third on a bunt single from Leslie Matherne. A second wild pitch scored Greuel, and moved Matherne up as well. Moments later, a squeeze bunt worked out to perfection as Madison Granberry drove in Matherne and tied the game at two.

A two-run homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth grew the Majors' lead to 5-2. Again, the Lynx were able to claw their way back in to the game. Hannah Schweiger singled with one out, followed by a Granberry walk. Siekerka then came through, per usual, with an RBI double. Two batters later, Hannah Grace Roden drove in two with a single, tying the game at five.

Millsaps responded quickly with three runs in the sixth to go ahead 8-5. A Schweiger double in the bottom half drove in Greuel to make it 8-6, but the scoring would stop there with a pair of zeroes in the seventh from both teams.

Schweiger was the only Lynx with two hits in game two.

These two teams will wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon at the Rhodes softball field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
