MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 25, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx finally found themselves in the win column in game number ten of the season, doing it in blowout fashion. They defeated Oglethorpe in their SAA season opener 17-4 on Friday evening. Rhodes now stands at 1-9 (1-0 SAA) while the Stormy Petrels sit at 5-6 (0-2 SAA).
Ryan Dancy has the Lynx on the board in the first minute with his 1th goal of the season. Two minutes later,
Conor Casey joined him off a feed from
Geist Pollock. The Rhodes attack stayed aggressive for the remainder of the quarter as Dancy and Casey each scored a second goal, along with Pollock,
Drew Litner, and
Drew Downes (twice) finding the net. Carson Van Note scored for the Petrels with two seconds left in the first to make it 8-1 at the horn.
The pace slowed in the second quarter, but it still belonged to the Lynx.
Liam Sullivan scored off a
Christian Cisneros helper two minutes in, followed by another Litner goal moments later. Sullivan then added two more goals in the final minute of the half to make 12-1 at the break.
Oglethorpe were flummoxed by the Lynx attack, and did not do themselves any favors on offense. The Petrels turned the ball over 31 times, and failed to clear their side eleven times. The Lynx were relentless on offense, firing a total of 71 shots in the direction of Addison Irwin. Irwin managed to rack up 28 saves in the game, which is a season-high for any SAA goalkeeper.
Rhodes won the third quarter 3-2, with scores from Sullivan,
Tyler Pellegrino and
Matt Leone. Both teams emptied the bench in the fourth, with
Miles Pollack and
Reed Dousevicz adding two more goals to the Rhodes total to make the final of 17-4.
Sullivan had four goals and an assist to lead the team with five points. Cisneros finished with four assists, and Downes had two each of goals and assists.
Brendan Roberts saved five shots in goal for Rhodes.
The Lynx will have another SAA home game on Sunday when they face the Berry Vikings at 1:00 pm at Crain Field.
