MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 17, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx faced their fifth ranked opponent in eight games on Thursday, and suffered the same fate as the previous four, falling 16-6 to the #13 Ithaca Bombers. Rhodes now stands at 0-8 on the season while Ithaca improves to 5-1.
The first quarter was slow-paced as the two teams felt each other out. Jake Ericson opened the scoring with an Ithaca goal at the eleven-minute mark. Neither team would score again for more than seven minutes. Kyle Proctor added a second goal at that point to give Ithaca a cushion. Their lead was chopped in half about a minute later when
Ryan Dancy found the back of the net off a nice feed from
Matt Leone. The Bombers would add two goals in the final minute of the period to lead 4-1 after one.
The scoring doubled for both teams in the second quarter. Ithaca carried the momentum into the new quarter, scoring three unanswered to lead 7-1.
Drew Downes snapped the scoring run with a goal off a feed from
Christian Cisneros. Downes and
Tyler Pellegrino would each score once more each, but the Bombers would add three more themselves to make the halftime score 10-4.
It was all Ithaca in the second half, as they outscored the Lynx 4-0 in the third and evened the Lynx' two goals in the fourth to make the final score of 16-6.
Downes was the only Rhodes players to score multiple goals.
Matt Leone was the team's point leader with a goal and two helpers.
Brendan Roberts recorded 12 saves in goal.
Next up for the Lynx is their final non-con game. They will host Elmhurst University at Crain Field on Sunday evening. Faceoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
