Lynx Split on Sunday

Rhodes defeated UDallas and lost to Webster on Sunday afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (February 20, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx had plenty of offense at their disposal on Sunday afternoon, and converted into a win and a close loss. They defeated Dallas 12-7 in the first game, followed by a tough 10-9 loss to webster in the nightcap. Rhodes now stands at 7-1 on the season.

Game One
Rhodes 12, Dallas 7
Box Score

The Crusaders pushed across three unearned runs in the top of the first, putting Rhodes in a hole early. In the bottom of the frame, Madison Stringfield and Ariel Schacter reached on a double and an error, respectively, and would ultimately be brought in on a Hannah Schweiger single and a Nikki Greuel sac fly to make it 3-2. Rhodes would then tie the score at three in the fourth, when Stringfield tripled to right and scored Beth Fleming. After Dallas picked one back up in the fifth, the Lynx doubled them up in the bottom half. With two outs and two on, pinch-hitter Cam Ferguson ripped a ball through the left side to score Greuel and Katelyn Siekerka

Dallas scored three times on four hits in the sixth, and left the bases loaded. Still, they had a 7-5 heading into the lower frame. The first five Lynx hitters reached base safely, followed by Madison Granberry driving in a pair on a single. Then pitcher Beth Fleming showcased her talent with the stick, shooting a single into right that scored two more. A Leslie Matherne double to right center would drive in Fleming and give the Lynx seven runs for the inning, and the final score of 12-7.

Rhodes collected 16 hits in the first game, led by Stringfield's four. Siekerka stayed hot at the plate as well, reaching three times. Four different Lynx drove in at least two runs, and nine different players scored a run. Fleming took home her third win of the year with a seven-inning complete game that included four earned, and seven strikeouts.

Game Two
Webster 10, Rhodes 9
Box Score

The second game was a wild one that saw Rhodes jump out to an early lead. They loaded the bases in the second and scored on a Matherne walk and a Stringfield infield single. In the third inning, they exploded for five runs with four of them coming on a monster grand slam off the bat of Nikki Greuel. With a 7-0 lead, the thought of a run-rule victory were present, but would soon be vanquished.

Webster scored eight runs in the top of the third inning. They were helped along by the Rhodes defense who committed two errors in the inning, and also hit a batter. BEkka Brissette recorded four RBI in the inning for the Gorloks, thanks to a two-run home run and a double off the wall.

Webster added two more runs in the sixth, making it 10-7. Instead of giving up, the Lynx fought hard until the end. With one out, Siekerka drove in Schacter with a double to left center. Granberry then followed with a single into right that brought Siekerka in, and made the score 10-9. The comeback attempt fell short as a groundout and popout wrapped up the game in favor of the Gorloks.

Greuel ended the game with two hits, two runs and four RBI. She was one of five Lynx to have multiple hits in the game.

Rhodes will open SAA conference play with a home series against Berry next weekend. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon at the softball field on campus.
