Panthers Prevail Over Lynx

Birmingham Southern defeated Rhodes 77-57 on Sunday afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (February 13, 2022) - A first-half deficit proved too much for Rhodes to overcome as the Lynx fell at the paws of the Birmingham Southern Panthers at home on Sunday afternoon, 77-57. The loss drops Rhodes to 10-13 (5-8 SAA) on the year, while BSC improves to 11-12 (6-6 SAA).

Rhodes jumped out to multiple leads early on, with Koki Wiley connecting on a three and Kevin Shen converting on three shots from the floor. A second three from Wiley gave Rhodes a five-point lead at the second media timeout. To that point, the Lynx defense had limited the Panthers to nine points. Minutes later, two free throws and a three from Cameron Glover gave BSC their first lead since the start of the game. Back-to-back buckets from Wiley brought Rhodes within one, but BSC went on an 8-0 run late in the half to improve their lead to 32-22. Glover added five more points to his total for the Panthers, while the Lynx did not score a field goal in the final three minutes of the half. At the first horn the score was 41-26. A key difference was the gap in field goal percentage in the first half; Birmingham Southern shot 47% while Rhodes converted at a 31% clip.

The two teams answered each other leading up to the first media timeout, with Rhodes only able to shave one point off the BSC lead. In the next segment, the Panthers ballooned their lead by outscoring the Lynx 11-2. Halfway through the period, Jefferson Walker and Wiley did their best to bring Rhodes back by knocking down a variety of shots, but the Rhodes defense failed to make enough stop sto allow their offense to bring them back into the game. The Panthers were able to maintain their lead, and ended up with a win at the end, 77-57

Wiley paced the Lynx with 17 points on an efficient 7-15 from the field. Arness Georgetown II added a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but they were the only two Lynx to score in double figures. Glover scored 17 to match Wiley and lead the Panthers.

The final game of the regular season for the Lynx will be at home on Tuesday, Febraury 15 against the Hendrix Warriors. Tip off is set for 8:00 pm.
