Los Lynx returned to their winning ways on Wednesday night with a home 66-50 victory over the Huntingdon Hawks!
The first half was a competitive one in Mallory Gymnasium. The Hawks took control early and pushed their lead to 7 in the first qtr. The Lynx responded with a great defensive effort and
Alexys Mathangani got the party started on the offensive end of the floor. The Hawks struggled to score after their hot start as the Lynx held them to 19.4% shooting from the floor in the 1st. Mathangani's 8 first qtr points along with
Taylor Dupree's 6 points gave the Lynx a 13-10 lead heading into the 2nd.Â
The 2nd was another back-and-forth one for the Lynx.
Audrey Griffith began the qtr with a quick layup for the Lynx, and extended their lead to 5. The Hawks responded with a 7-0 run and regained the lead (17-15) with 6:53 to go until the half. After Coach Rogan calmed the team with a timeout, they came out and responded with a 9-0 run of their own.
Taya Lee helped jumpstart the run with 5pts and a few timely rebounds. The Lynx defense was great in the quarter, and held the Hawks to 15.8% shooting. By the end of the 2nd, the Lynx held a 26-19 lead.Â
The 2nd half saw the Lynx take control of the game behind their defensive effort. They held the Hawks to 32% shooting in the half and never allowed them to string together scoring possessions. Dupree helped lockdown the paint with a few blocks and finished the game with 5.
Avery Marsh joined the block party with 2 of her own. Mathangani and Marsh were all over the court for the Lynx. Marsh finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Mathangani, equally impressive, finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 blocks. Lee and Dupree also finished in double-figures with 10 and 11 points. The Lynx held a 66-60 at the final buzzer.
The Lynx victory was powered by their hustle. They won the rebounding battle 50-39.
Giana Vlahakos was dominant on the glass with 12 rebounds of her own. The Lynx also won the paint battle 52-22 and finished with 11 total blocks.Â
Los Lynx will be back in action Dec. 19 against Pacific University.Â
