Sewanee, Tenn. - Rhodes College softball bats came alive at Sewanee Saturday as the Lynx swept the Tigers in non-conference action 8-0 and 11-0 in five innings. Rhodes is now 10-14 on the season.
Game 1
The Lynx scored the winning run in the second inning when
Madison Granberry singled in
Hannah Grace Roden who had singled and then stolen second base. In the third inning,
Nikki Greuel doubled in
Lauren King and
Marisa Moore to give Rhodes a 3-0 lead. A
Lauren King two-run homer in the fifth added to Rhodes' lead before the Lynx crossed two in the sixth on three hits, a stolen base, and two Sewanee errors. The Lynx led off the seventh inning with two singles before Sewanee made a double play. Greuel, who led off the inning, stole third, which allowed her to score on a
Peyton Clark single and give Rhodes the 8-0 advantage.
Overall, Rhodes tallied 17 hits in the win led by
Lauren King's 4-for-4 at the plate.
Marisa Moore and
Samantha Feinstein both went 3-for-4 while Clark, Greuel and Roden each recorded two hits.
Through four innings, pitcher
Madison Keller only saw 13 batters and allowed just one hit before allowing three walks in the fifth. She finished the game with six innings in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out five Tigers. Keller is now 3-1 on the season.
Game 2
Rhodes scored 11 runs on 14 hits and three Sewanee errors to shut out the Tigers for the second time in a day.
Lauren King got the start in the circle and singled in the winning RBI in the first inning as the Lynx recorded four hits and stole two bases. Two more runs scored on a Roden single and wild pitch. Sewanee sat down in order in the bottom half of the inning before Rhodes plated three more runs to lead 6-0 after two. In the third, Feinstein led off the third inning with solo home run before Granberry secured Rhodes' second double of the game. The Lynx would total four runs in the inning on four hits to lead 10-0. The final run of the game came in the fifth when
Callie Perkins recorded a pinch hit double to score
Leslie Matherne.
Katelyn Siekerka was the other Lynx to hit a double. She went 3-for-3 in the game as did Moore while King recorded two hits. Overall, nine Lynx tallied a hit.
In the circle, King struck out six and allowed just two hits in three innings to get the win.
Andie Priest came in in relief with two strikeouts in two innings without allowing a hit.
Rhodes will play their final home games of the season next weekend when they host Centre College in noon doubleheaders both days. Prior to Sunday's games, the Lynx will honor four outgoing seniors.
