Danville, Ky. - Rhodes College men's lacrosse downed Birmingham-Southern 15-4 to advance to the 2021 SAA Tournament Championship game for the fourth year in a row.
The Lynx got off to a fast start against regular season champion Centre. First year
Matt Leone scored the first two goals of the game on assists from
Richard Corroon and
Matt Perez before the host Colonels found the back of the net after almost six scoreless minutes.
Jonathon Hazlehurst then served up
Ryan Marasco to give Rhodes a 3-1 lead with 27 seconds left in the first quarter.Â
Centre opened the second quarter with a goal almost two minutes in before
Isaiah Pratt gave the Lynx a 4-2 lead with 8:20 left in the half. The Colonels then went on a four-goal run to end the half with a 6-4 advantage. They continued to increase that margin scoring all five goals of the second half for the 11-4 victory and tournament championship title.Â
Rhodes outshot Centre 44-32 while the Colonels committed 19 turnovers to Rhodes' 16. The Lynx also won 11 of the 18 faceoffs, but Centre's Wills McCutcheon made 20 saves in the game to elevate his team to victory.Â
First year
Ethan Frischhertz recorded seven ground balls while going 8-of-13 at the faceoff. Junior
Alexi Thomas added six ground ballls and two caused turnovers while
Tooker Callaway III recorded three caused turnovers.
After the game,

Matt Perez were all named to the 2021 Men's Lacrosse All-Tournament Team.
The Lynx finish the season 5-4 after going 4-1 in SAA play and second place in the regular season standings.
