Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Lynx Finish Season In Tight SAA Semifinal Battle

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - After a valiant effort, Rhodes men's tennis fell just short in the 2021 Southern Athletic Association semifinals to Centre in their first indoor match all season. In doubles, the Lynx had really close matches at #1 and #3 doubles. On the #1 court, sophomore Daniel Trudell and junior Alex Lloyd lost 8-6 to Arpit Rana and Bo Bush. Sophomore David Phillips and freshman Gabe Williams held off multiple match points at #3 doubles before losing in a tiebreaker 8-7(6) to Ashton Whitt and Faraz Ghamgosar. Playing their last doubles match together seniors Andrew Morton and Ted Hall fought hard in an 8-3 loss to Matthew Bulow and Danny Nelson.

Despite going into singles down 0-3 the Lynx were still confident because last weekend they had won five singles courts against Centre after being down 1-2 after doubles. Senior Andrew Morton was the first to secure a point for the Lynx at the #3 position, as he had a 6-2, 2-0 lead over Bo Bush who retired. Junior Alex Lloyd was the next court to finish which was a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Aston Whitt. At the #4 and #5 positions, freshman Gabe Williams and sophomore David Phillips, respectively, both lost their first set and were each down a break in their second sets, but were able to battle back and force a deciding third set. At the #1 position, sophomore Daniel Trudell also split sets and held off a match point in the third set before forcing a third set tiebreaker. Junior Ryan Crump was up 5-2 at the #6 position when the match reached a decision as Faraz Ghamgosar served out his match at the #4 position defeating Gabe Williams 6-2 in the third set.

The Lynx went 5-1 in SAA play during the season, earning the first regular season title in program history.
