Women's Soccer Set to Face Centre in SAA Semifinals

4/15/2021 11:00:00 AM

Rhodes College women's soccer has finished in the top four of the Southern Athletic Association standings since the conference's inception. This year the Lynx have secured a trip to the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 3-2-1 record against SAA opponents.

The Lynx will square off against No. 1 - seeded Centre College on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Danville, Ky. No. 2 - seeded Birmingham-Southern will open the tournament against No. 3 - seeded Berry College at 4 p.m. ET in the other semifinal game.

Rhodes and Centre squared off last weekend to end regular season play. The Lynx fell 2-0, but limited the Colonels to just 11 shots, the lowest of any conference opponent. Centre entered the game averaging 22 shots per game.

The rivalry of the Lynx and Colonels goes back to their days as Southern Collegiate Athletic Association members. Centre has won every SAA Championship since its inception in 2012.

The last time the Lynx defeated the Colonels was in 2014 at home in a 2-0 shutout. Rhodes will look to upset the Colonels on their home turf. The two teams tied in Danville in 2013, but Rhodes' last win on the road dates back to 2008.

The winner advances to the SAA Tournament Championship, set for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday at Amend Field.

Live video and live stats will be provided for the entire tournament. Fans can find the full 2020-21 SAA Women's Soccer Tournament Championship webpage here.
