Memphis - Rhodes softball swept the Centre College Colonels this weekend 4-0, taking the conference series with 4-2 wins Saturday followed by a 3-2 victory to open Senior Day. In the non-conference matchup, the Lynx defeated the Colonels 5-1.
Game One
Prior to game one, Rhodes honored outgoing seniors
Peyton Clark,
Samantha Feinstein,
Lauren King, and
Marisa Moore. Centre scored in the first before King tied the game with a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the second. The Lynx took the lead with a
Nikki Greuel double which scored Moore who opened the bottom of the fourth with a single to right center. First year
Madison Stringfield doubled in Clark in the next inning to add an insurance run and eventual game-winning RBI as Centre hit a home run to lead off the seventh. The Colonels stranded two as King earned the win with a strikeout to end the game.
King struck out six in the complete game, and went 2-for-3 at the plate alongside Stringfield.
Game two
Centre scored in the first inning once again, this time with two outs, in what would be their only run of the game. The Colonels held the one-run advantage until the bottom of the third inning when Stringfield earned the tying RBI with a single up the middle. After a scoreless fourth, Stringfield hit a sac fly for her second game-winning RBI of the day. In the bottom of the sixth,
Callie Perkins pinch hit and walked in thre third run for the Lynx before Feinstein hit a two-RBI single through the left side to plate the final runs of the game.
Stringfield, who went to the circle in relief in the fifth inning, earned the win. Feinstein finished 2-for-2 at the plate, the only Lynx with a multi-base hit in the game.
Rhodes will close out the regular season next weekend at Hendrix with four games. The Lynx are now 14-14 on the season and 4-8 in conference play.
