Memphis - It was a heated battle on Senior Day as Rhodes College men's soccer fell to Centre College in the biggest matchup of the season. With everything on the line, and needing a win to keep their season alive, the Lynx first honored outgoing seniors
Ronan Ferrentino,
Rob Morris,
Ian Schiller, and
Ben Tang.
Both teams recorded an even three shots in the first half with two saves from each team. Rhodes edged the Colonels 5-4 in corner kicks during the first half while Centre was called for six fouls. Rhodes drew three, two of which were issued yellow cards.Â
Centre scored early in the second half, just 4:11 after the break. Over 22 scoreless minutes passed before the Colonels went up 2-0. Less than a minute later,
Nico DeFilippis found the ball near the goal line and headed it in as Rhodes fans erupted in the bleachers. Â
Tensions were mounting as time was drawing to a close. Centre put the game away in the 84th minute a little after a corner opportunity. After the ball bounced around inside the box, the Colonels headed it into the goal to go up 3-1 and advance to the 2021 SAA Tournament.
Overall the Colonels edged Rhodes in shots 10-7 while the Lynx held a 7-6 corner kick advantage.
Rhodes concludes their season with a 2-3-1 record.
