Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Tough Season-Opening Loss for Men's Lacrosse

Memphis - After a variety of misfortunes plagued Rhodes men's lacrosse from hitting the field any sooner, the Lynx were finally able to compete 363 days after their season abruptly ended in March of 2020.

Rhodes hosted Transylvania University in their season-opener Sunday, netting the first two goals of the game. Jonathon Hazlehurst put the Lynx on the scoreboard less than a minute and a half into the game on an assist from Christian Cisneros. Grant Allen tallied the second goal, the first of his collegiate career. Transy tied the game before Ryan Dancy put Rhodes up 3-2. By halftime, the two squads were tied 5-5.

Cisneros opened the second half with a goal less than 30 seconds back from the break. Two minutes later, Ryan Marasco served up Dancy to give Rhodes a 7-5 advantage. Cisneros added back-to-back goals to put Rhodes ahead by three goals (9-6). Transy scored with 45 seconds left in the third quarter.  Andrew Lempner intercepted a Transy clear attempt with one hand and as he passed over to an open Cisneros, kept heading towards the goal. Cisneros relayed the give-and-go for Lemper to bury the one-on-one with Transy's goalkeeper. Lempner scored with 12 seconds left in the quarter Lynx to put Rhodes into double digits.

Transy opened the fourth quarter with three straight goals to tie the game until Tyler Pellegrino connected on a Cisneros pass to put Rhodes ahead 11-10. Transy tied the game with 4:25 before netting the game-winner with 3:43 remaining.

Cisneros led the game with six points as he scored three goals and three assists. Dancy ended the game with three goals while Pellegrino added another two. Defensively, Alexi Thomas caused four Pioneer turnovers and first year Ethan Frischhertz recorded four ground balls and three caused turnovers while senior Brendan Roberts recorded 11 saves.

Rhodes outshot Transy 48-35 and held a 15-12 faceoff advantage.

Rhodes is scheduled to host Illinois Wesleyan on March 14 at noon.
