Lynx Split Westminster as Wagner Records 200th Career Victory

Memphis - Rhodes College softball defeated Westminster College (MO) 9-1 in six innings Saturday afternoon. The win marked the 200th for head coach Luke Wagner as the Lynx posted eight of their nine runs across two innings. The two squads went into extra innings for the second day in a row with Westminster taking the final game of the four-game series 12-10 in eight innings.

Game One
Lauren King got the start for the Lynx and helped herself to the win after hitting two home runs in the game. First year Katelyn Siekerka led off the third inning with a double. She eventually scored on a Madison Granberry sac fly to get scoring started. King gave the Lynx a 3-0 lead on a two-run homer in the fourth as Rhodes took advantage of Westminster miscues and added two hits and a sac bunt to score four runs.

Rhodes led 5-0 before Westminster recorded their lone run. The Lynx then added another four runs to end the game early on the eight-run rule. King led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run before the Lynx walked in two runs and a Hannah Grace Roden singled in Samantha Feinstein for the ninth run.

Siekerka also tripled in the game as she, King, and Marisa Moore each recorded two hits.

Game Two
The two teams combined for 28 hits in game two with Rhodes posting 13 of those. Six runs crossed in the first inning, two from Westminster and four from Rhodes. Rhodes opened the second game of the day with three straight hits before two fielder's choices plated two runs. An error allowed two more runs to eventually score. Westminster tied the game in the top of the second, but a sac fly in the second and third innings put Rhodes ahead 6-4. The Blue Jays scored five runs in the fifth on three hits and three walks to lead 9-6. One Lynx run in the fifth and two in the sixth tied the game. Westminster sealed the victory with a single and a double in the eighth to score the winning run from second base.

This time, King went 4-for-5. Feinstein, Stringfield, Roden, and Granberry each recorded two hits.

Rhodes is back in action at home next weekend when they open SAA play against Birmingham-Southern. A doubleheader on Saturday, March 13 will begin at noon, followed by  a single game on Sunday, also at noon.
