Westminster Holds On For Day One Sweep

Memphis - Rhodes College softball scored first in both games of a doubleheader against the Westminster College Blue Jays before dropping both games to the Missouri squad. The losses take the Lynx to 5-5 on the season.

Game One
The Lynx took an early 1-0 lead and held the Blue Jays scoreless until the fifth inning. First year pitcher Madison Stringfield struck out Westminster in order in the third inning before two Lynx errors allowed the visitors to take the lead (2-1) in the fifth. Westminster went up 3-1 on a solo homer in the sixth before two more errors and a sac fly added the final two runs in the seventh.

Marisa Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Siekerka plated the lone Lynx run. Stringfield struck out five and allowed just one walk and two earned runs in the circle.

Game Two
First year pitcher Andie Priest struck out the Blue Jays in order to open the game before a Lauren King double scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first for Rhodes. A solo home run for Westminster in the fourth tied the game before more Lynx errors and five Blue Jay hits crossed four runs in the fifth to give Westminster a 5-1 lead.

With rally caps on, Rhodes led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk (Taylor Clark). Lauren Little pinch hit for Priest for singled Clark over to second. A Hannah Grace Roden single loaded the bases with zero outs for Siekerka who doubled in two runs. Nikki Greuel tallied an RBI on a groundout in the infield before Moore reached on a fielder's choice and collected another RBI to tie the game as Siekerka was called safe at home.

Westminster scored the winning run on their first at-bat in the eighth on a single up  the middle. They then added an insurance run on a sac fly before winning 7-5.

Greuel and Roden both went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Only one Lynx struck out in 36 plate appearances. Priest struck out seven Blue Jays in seven innings of work.
