Jackson, Miss. - Rhodes College volleyball fell in straight sets to open the doubleheader against the Millsaps College Majors. In the afternoon contest, Rhodes lost the first set before going up 2-1 until the Majors held on for the five-set victory to sweep the day.
Game One
Rhodes got off to a slow start before suffering a 25-12 loss in set one. The Lynx only trailed 11-10 before Millsaps went ahead 19-12 to put distance between the two teams. Rhodes then trailed 21-16 before four straight points put them in contention once again. Millsaps led 23-22 and closed the set with two straight points. In the third set, Rhodes led 9-6 until the Majors secured an 8-1 run. Rhodes reached 20 points first and led 22-20 before the Majors tied the game. They ensured the victory on a 5-1 run.
During the game,
Shayla Garrison led Rhodes with nine kills while
Marissa Hall tallied 15 digs.
Game Two
Rhodes trailed 9-8 before Millsaps went ahead 19-13 before taking the first set 25-19. Tied 10-10 in the second set, the Lynx posted an 8-1 run to lead 18-11. Rhodes took the 25-20 victory before making a comeback to win the third set. Millsaps held a 10-5 advantage before a 9-1 Rhodes run gave the Lynx a 14-11 edge. Later Rhodes led 18-15 before a 6-1 run gave them an eight-point advantage as the went ahead 2-1 with a 25-17 win.
Tied 19-19 in the third set, Millsaps tied the match 2-2 with a 6-1 run to win 25-21. Rhodes led 4-2 in the tie-breaker before six goals put them ahead 8-4. The Lynx pulled within two but couldn't get any closer as Millsaps came away with the 15-10.
During the match, Garrison led Rhodes with 18 kills while
Gabrielle White totaled 16. Hall recorded four aces while
Gabriele Kozik tallied 21 digs.
The Lynx have a bye week before returning to Mallory Gymnasium for their final home games of the season. Rhodes will host Hendrix for Senior Day on Saturday, April 10.
