Memphis - Rhodes women's tennis fell to Berry College in both the Saturday conference matchup (7-2) and the Sunday non-conference contest (6-3) in what were extremely close matchups. The Lynx are now 2-1 in SAA play. Berry is now undefeated on the season at 6-0.
Saturday
Emily Holderness and
Dallas Bennett won at No. 3 doubles 8-1 before
Dasha Safarian defeated her opponent 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 2 singles. Four other singles matches also went to tie-breakers, all of which went the Vikings' way. Holderness had a tough matchup at No. 4 singles falling 7-5 in the first set before forcing a third set after a 6-3 victory. In the third set, her Viking opponent held a 7-6 edge before winning the super tie-breaker 7-4. At No. 6 singles, Bennett fell in the third set by just two games (10-8).Â
Sunday
Rhodes almost swept doubles play on day two against the Vikings winning 8-4 at No. 2 doubles with Holderness and Bennett teaming up for an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles. Safarian and
Julia Darkey fell to their opponent in a tight matchup at the top spot 8-7 (7-3). Mixing up the singles lineup on both sides of the net,
Lea Letourneau won Rhodes' lone singles match 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 at No. 4 singles. Holderness (No. 3) and
Kate McGough (No. 5) also went to third set tie-breakers against their opponents.
