Germantown, Tenn. - Rhodes College women's lacrosse defeated DePauw 16-7 Saturday in their home opener. DePauw's first game of the season took place on the campus of The Hutchison School due to water issues in Midtown, Memphis.
Rhodes started scoring early and often as the Lynx buried the first goal of the game 53 seconds into the game. The scorer,
Payton Bennett, would go on to total six goals throughout the game. In the first 20 minutes Rhodes led 4-0 and after 19 minutes of play, the Lynx had secured a running clock with a 10-0 lead. After Bennett's fifth goal, Emma Kennedy put the Tigers on the board for the first time this season, a minute and 17 seconds before the half.
The Lynx went up 15-1 and began the second half with three goals in 5:15 minutes of play. Grace Clarke would go on to score three of DePauw's final six goals in the last 20 minutes of play.
The Lynx posted a 25-9 shot advantage in the first half and a 19-6 advantage on draw controls throughout the game.
For Rhodes,
Sierra Anderson recorded her first career goal during the game. Behind Bennett on offense was
Baylee Barker who tallied four points on two goals and two assists. She led the game with eight draw controls. Bennett also recorded a team-high four ground balls.
Carina Wesker and
Izzy Parker also each recorded two goals. Both goalkeepers,
Emma Bradley and
Mary Leonard, recorded six saves each.
Rhodes and DePauw are scheduled for a 12 p.m. game on Sunday at The Hutchison School.
