Game 1:Â Mississippi University for Women vs. Rhodes College
It was Mississippi University for Women that scored first due in part to a controversial call at first base with two outs in the inning. Although it looked as though junior first baseman
Leslie Matherne was able to corral a wild throw from across the infield while remaining on the bag, an umpires' huddle thought otherwise. The result of the play allowed both the runner to be called safe at first, and a run from third base to score.Â
Rhodes couldn't get anything going until the top of the third inning when senior
Samantha Feinstein reached base safely on a blast to left field that was jarred from the fielder's glove as she ran into the outfield fence. It was then sophomore
Hannah Grace Roden that roped a double to the gap, scoring Feinstein from second base and erasing the Lynx deficit. Roden advanced to third on a steal, and later scored on a batted ball from senior
Lauren King, giving the Lynx a 2-1 advantage.Â
The game remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fourth when MUW responded with two runs of their own, recapturing a 3-2 lead.Â
The Lynx continued to trail by a single run until the sixth inning when junior
Abby Pons lifted a single into the outfield plating senior
Marisa Moore, knotting the game up 3-3. Riding the momentum of Pons' single, Rhodes loaded the bases for pinch hitter, sophomore
Lauren Little. After working a full count, Little laced a double to right center field, clearing the bases and giving the Lynx a three-run advantage.Â
That tally remained until the bottom of the seventh when MUW, down to their final out, hit a three-run triple, sending the game to extra innings.Â
Unable to score in the top of the eighth, MUW capitalized on a Rhodes' miscue in the bottom of the inning, winning the contest by a 7-6 count.Â
For Rhodes,
Lauren King had three hits (two doubles) while
Abby Pons and
Hannah Grace Roden each had two hits a piece. The loss was the first of the season for the Lynx, dropping them to 4-1.Â

Game 2: Rhodes College vs. Westminster College
In the nightcap, a resilient Lynx squad took to the field, eager to return to their winning ways. This time, it was Rhodes that scored first, pushing across three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The scoring began when
Marisa Moore doubled to the left center field gap scoring Siekerka.  Later that same inning, freshman
Madison Stringfield fired a single back up the middle that plated Pons and Moore, extending Rhodes' lead to 3-0.Â
Although Westminster would respond with a run of their own in the top half of the next inning, pulling within one, that was the closest the Blue Jays would get to the Lynx the remainder of the evening.Â
In the bottom of the second, Rhodes pushed their lead even further when King batted in Roden from third base. Next up, Siekerka scored senior
Peyton Clark with on a double of her own and, not to be outdone, Pons knocked home Siekerka to ballon Rhodes' lead to 6-1. The Lynx went on to secure a 6-4 win; moving to to 5-1 on the young season.Â
Â
For the Lynx,
Abby Pons,
Katelyn Siekerka (two doubles) and
Hannah Grace Roden each had two hits a piece. In the circle,
Madison Stringfield picked up her second win of the season while freshman
Andie Priest threw a gem in relief before giving way to
Lauren King for the save.
Tomorrow Rhodes returns to action to face Stillman College (NAIA). First pitches are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. central time.Â
