Conway, Ark. - Rhodes College men's basketball honored outgoing seniors
Ben Vickers and
Colin Minx prior to their weekend series against the Hendrix College Warriors. Fellow senior
Grayson Walker will be recognized next year as he has decided to come back to use his final year of eligibility. Rhodes was originally scheduled to host the Warriors until water issues in Memphis forced the location change. The Lynx would like to extend a thank you to the Hendrix Warriors and staff for recognizing our seniors.
In the first half there were six ties and five lead changes before Hendrix held a 36-29 advantage at halftime. Hendrix only ever led by as many as seven points in the close matchup with Rhodes scoring eight in a row with about seven minutes left.
Jalen Essick led the Lynx with seven points while
Koki Wiley grabbed five defensive boards.
Rhodes caught up with Hendrix and tied the game 52-all with 8:14 left in the game. A
Mac James layup put Rhodes ahead by one. A Warriors three-pointer sparked a Hendrix 11 point run over four minutes, which put enough distance between the Lynx with three minutes to play.
Hendrix continued to shoot above .500 in the field in the second half and held a 38-32 advantage for the 74-61 victory.
James led Rhodes with 14 points going 3-for-3 from the arc. Essick finished the game with 12 points and eight rebounds while
Arness Georgetown II recorded six rebounds.
Hendrix shot 56 percent in the field overall while the Lynx shot 35 percent.
Rhodes and Hendrix will meet again Saturday evening at 4 p.m. inside Grove Gymnasium.
