Florida - Rhodes College softball dropped game one of their trip to Florida with a tough 7-6 loss to Monmouth College. The Lynx then rebounded for an 8-1 victory over No. 25-ranked Manhattanville College.
Monmouth
The Fighting Scots took an early 1-0 lead before Rhodes scored four runs in the second inning and two in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. In the fifth inning, pitcher
Lauren King earned all three outs on strikeouts, picking up her seventh strikeout of the game. Monmouth retaliated in the sixth with five runs on four hits and two walks to tie the game. After
Madison Keller came into the circle in relief, the junior shut down the first two batters before two singles and a stolen base plated the game-winning run.
During the game
Peyton Clark walked twice and drove in two runs while
Hannah Grace Roden and
Taylor Clark also recorded two RBI. Roden,
Samantha Feinstein and
Jenna Roulan each went two-for-four at the plate.
Manhattanville
The Lynx stuck with Keller for game two. Patient at the plate to start the game, Rhodes loaded the bases on three walks forcing Manhattanville to change pitchers. A single up the middle for King scored the first two runs of the game. Keller sat the Valiants down in order in the second before they scored their only run on a solo home run in the fourth inning. A King triple scored
Shannon Tierney before the Lynx added another two runs, also in the fifth on a Feinstein double. A double from Tierney in the sixth scored two more for Rhodes. Tierney went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a King groundout to first base.
Keller struck out seven Valiants in the complete-game victory. King recorded four RBI and
Anna Kula went 3-for-4. King and
Marisa Moore both earned two hits in the game.
Rhodes will be back in action bright and early in the Sunshine State Monday with a 9 a.m. ET game against Ohio Wesleyan.
