Birmingham - The Rhodes College Lynx softball team looked to avoid the weekend sweep as they took on the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers Sunday afternoon. The Panthers were able to complete their three win weekend sweep as they downed the Lynx 5-0.
The Panthers were able to get on the board first as they were able to manufacture a few base hits and capitalize off of two Lynx errors. Back-to-back base hits were able to bring home their first runs of the ballgame, in the bottom of the second inning (2-0).Â
In the fourth inning, BSC was able to extend their lead as they were able to single home a run in two different occasions. They plated two runs in the inning to bring their lead to 4-0.
The Panthers rounded out the scoring in the contest as a fielding error by Rhodes brought home another run (5-0).
BSC rallied behind an impressive performance in the circle as their starter tossed a complete game shutout, while allowing only three hits and striking out six.
Anna Kula, Peyton Clark, and Marisa Moore were the only Lynx hitters to record a base knock. Clark also recorded a stolen base in the contest, which made it her eighth on the season.
Lauren King tossed five strong innings in the circle for the Lynx, while allowing three earned runs, six hits, and striking out a BSC batter.
The Rhodes Lynx travel to Florida as they take part in their Spring Break games. They will play nine games in a span of five days.
