Memphis - After a season-opening victory on Friday, Rhodes College softball fell to Greenville University 15-5 in five innings before the Lynx rebounded to a 12-0 five-inning victory. The win is the first shutout of the season as the Lynx pick up a season-opening series victory.
Game One
Greenville scored four runs in the first inning in part to a three-run home run before the Lynx crossed a run in the bottom half of the inning. The Panthers added two more runs on three hits and a walk in the second. Rhodes responded with two runs in the bottom of the second after freshman
Hannah Grace Roden led off with a double to center.
Lauren Little's single pushed her to third and Roden then scored on a double steal. An
Anna Kula bunt for a single score Little which cut Greenville's lead to 6-3. The Panthers tallied another four runs in the top of the third while Rhodes scored two.
Jenna Roulan doubled in
Lauren King and
Shannon Tierney singled in Roulan.Â
Greenville added another five runs across the final two innings on five hits and two errors. During the game, Kula went 2-of-3, the only Lynx to earn more than one hit while five different Lynx crossed home plate.
Game Two
Rhodes came out swinging in retaliation, picking up five hits, three walks and two stolen bases for six runs in the first inning. The Lynx added another run in the second with two outs on three consecutive singles before Rhodes rallied for four more runs in the third inning. Freshman
Lauren Little hit her first collegiate triple to lead off the bottom of the inning. The first run scored on a sac fly from
Leslie Matherne before the Lynx earned two walks and a single. King tripled to clear the bases before she scored on a wild pitch to give Rhodes a 12-0 lead. Greenville left two runners on in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the fifth.
King earned the win while while going 3-of-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Roden also went 3-of-3, with a double, earned two RBI and crossed home once. Matherne added two RBI while Roulan tallied one.Â
The Lynx will play four games on the road next weekend in Montgomery, Ala., facing Huntingdon College and Louisiana College.
