Nicholasville, Ky. - Rhodes College men's tennis fell to Wooster 6-3 Sunday at Top Seed Tennis Center, but not before five of the six singles matches went to tie-breakers.
Wooster took all three doubles 8-5, 8-4 and 8-6 before opening singles with a win at No. 4 in straight sets.
Daniel Trudell won at No. 5 6-0, 5-7, 6-0 until Wooster claimed the win with a victory at No. 2 singles after a retirement from
Phil Lauture. With Rhodes down 5-1, freshman
David Phillips beat his opponent in dramatic fashion. In the third set tie-breaker, down 5-3 with his opponent leading 40-0, Phillips beat three straight match points to stay alive. He eventually held off seven total match points in the set to win 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Ritwik Chatterjee earned a win at No. 1 singles after his opponent retired before
Andrew Morton fell at No. 2 singles 6-2, 4-6, 5-7.
The Lynx are back at the Dunavant Tennis Complex next weekend, hosting CBU and Blue Mountain College on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
