Memphis - The Lynx downed Fontbonne 2-0 and Defiance 9-0 to start the weekend. Rhodes softball has now won four of their last five games and they improve to 5-2 on the season.
Fontbonne
In the first game of the day, the Lynx scored one run in each of the first two innings, enough to complete the shutout. In the bottom of the first,
Peyton Clark singled with one out and moved around the bases after stealing second and taking third on a wild pitch.
Lauren King then singled her in to score the game-winning run. In the bottom of the second,
Shannon Tierney led off wth a single up the middle. She also stole second base and then moved to third on a groundout. Tierney scored on a
Leslie Matherne sac fly to right field. Starting pitcher
Madison Keller picked up her first victory of the season striking out four in the complete-game shutout while walking only one Griffin and allowing only three hits. She sat the St. Louis team down in order three times during the game.
Defiance
Five extra-base hits helped propel the Lynx to victory. The Lynx recorded four runs in the first innings on five hits. Three hits to right center brought in four runs for the Lynx.
Marisa Moore's double to scored Clark and King before Moore scored on a Tierney triple.
Hannah Grace Roden then singled in Tierney. King sat each of the Griffins down in order across the first three innings while the Lynx added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits including a King double. Clark tallied an RBI on a single to left as well. Tierney was stranded after leading off the bottom of the third with a double before Clark added another RBI in the fourth alongside Moore who hit a two-run shot over the fence. King allowed zero hits through four innings before the Griffins earned two hits in the fifth.
Against the Yellow Jackets,
Anna Kula and Tierney both went 3-for-3 while Moore totaled four RBI and Clark scored three times. King struck out four in five innings, walked one and gave up just two hits.
The Lynx are back in action Sunday hosting Defiance at noon followed by Fontbonne at 2 p.m.
