Baseball Defeats Ferrum For Fourth Straight Victory

Atlanta, Ga. - Delayed by a little rain, the Rhodes College baseball team picked up their fourth straight victory after defeating Ferrum College 6-5 on the campus of Oglethorpe University Sunday. The Lynx have earned 11 or more hits in each win so far this season while the pitching staff has struck out 53 opponents.

Trey Sledge got the start for the Lynx who began the game with three runs in the top of the first inning. After two quiet innings, Rhodes plated another run when freshman Mitchell O'Berry doubled in Ben Wilson to give Rhodes a 4-0 lead. Sledge sat the Panthers down in order in the bottom of the fourth before Ferrum scored a run on two hits in the fifth. Sledge earned all three outs in the inning on strikeouts including the final two on back-to-back plate appearances with runners on second and third.

The Lynx went up by four once again in the sixth on another double, this time from senior Paul Giacomazzi who tallied an RBI. Ferrum scored two in the bottom half of the inning on two hist, a walk and two wild pitches by freshman Nick Ferazzi who entered the mound for the Lynx. Rhodes crossed their final run in the seventh when Wood Kimbrough singled up the middle to score Peter York from second base. Rhodes stranded two on a double play.

Ferrum almost rallied back after scoring a run in the seventh and ninth innings. The Panthers started the ninth with two singles and a wild pitch. A sac fly with one out scored a run before Alex Garrett picked up the save by striking out the final Panther to end the game.

Will Overstreet went 2-for-3  with an RBI while Giacomazzi, Will Heurtin and York also earned two hits in the game. Giacomazzi, Heurtin, Seth Roffwarg and Ben Wilson each earned a walk. Ferazzi struck out one and Garrett four as Rhodes struck out 14 Panthers.
