Memphis - Rhodes College women's basketball held on for a 64-58 victory over Berry College Friday night. The win is the third in a row for the Lynx who are now 13-7 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Berry drops to 10-11 and 4-6 in conference.
After Rhodes opened the game with 12 straight points, and limited the Vikings to four points in the first quarter, the Lynx went into halftime with a 27-16 lead.

Rhodes shot .500 in the third quarter but Berry opened the second half on an 8-2 run to pull within five points, the closest the Vikings would get to the Lynx. Rhodes fouls sent the Vikings to the free throw line for 10 attempts with the visitors connecting on eight free throws during the third quarter. Rhodes managed to edge the Vikings 24-23 to hold a 51-39 lead headed into the final 10 minutes. Berry clawed their way closer to the Lynx in the fourth quarter, outscoring Rhodes 18-13 as well as a 13-6 rebounding advantage. Rhodes went 7-of-10 at the free throw line to keep the Vikings at bay.

Kiera Downey's game-high 16 points came in the first half. Four other Lynx also recorded double digits including
Alyssa Owens (12),
Alli Mayeux (11),
Ellen Hagen (10), and
Alexys Mathangani (10). Owens narrowly missed a double double with nine rebounds while Mathangani added eight more and Hagen tallied four assists.
Rhodes will host No. 18/11 Oglethorpe University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the SAA Game of the Week. The Stormy Petrels are 10-0 against conference opponents as the Lynx look to avenge a loss earlier in the season.Â
