Danville, Ky. – Facing the top team in the Southern Athletic Association, Rhodes College men's basketball suffered an 81-59 loss to the Centre College Colonels.
Trailing by six to start the game, Rhodes scored eight points in a row to lead 14-12 midway through the first half. The Colonels immediately responded with 10 unanswered points, including two dunks, on their way to a 22-4 run, leading by as many as 16 points. Rhodes finished the final two minutes with two three-pointers. Centre led 37-24 at halftime.
The Colonels opened the second half with six straight points which sparked an 11-3 run before Centre took a 25-point lead, their largest of the game with 2:40 to play.
Mitch Weatherford scored nine of his 11 points during the second half while
Koki Wiley scored seven of his team-high 13 points. Centre went 6-of-9 from three-point range during the final 20 minutes and averaged .630 in the field.
On the day, Rhodes averaged 43.1 percent while the Colonels averaged .540 in the field. Centre also held a 35-31 rebounding edge and committed 10 turnovers compared to Rhodes' 18.
Nick De Feria and
Wiley Pippenger each totaled five rebounds for the Lynx.
Rhodes will face Centre at home next Sunday after they host Sewanee on Friday night.
