Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lynx Shut Out UW-Whitewater for Fifth Straight Win

Greencastle, Ind. - Rhodes College women's soccer is on a roll after defeating the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW) 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

After 23 scoreless minutes, junior Liz Vega passed a through-ball to sophomore Alli Cundiff inside the box. Cundiff's shot from the right side hit the sliding UWW goalkeeper and went out of bounds, earning the Lynx a corner opportunity. Rhodes took advantage as Katelyn Curtis' corner kick went past the opposite goalpost where defender Carly Cone came racing in to direct the game-winning header straight down into the back of the net. During that first half the Lynx held an 8-2 shot advantage with both teams earning one corner opportunity.

The Warhawks came out of the halftime break hot, pressuring the Lynx early twice as Abby Roevens made several fantastic saves to keep the Lynx ahead. One of those, in the fourth minute of the second half, the Warhawks shot right in front of the goal before Roevens made the diving stop on the line, not allowing momentum to shift to the Warhawks. The Southern Athletic Association's leading goal scorer, Cundiff, notched her seventh goal of the season in the 77th minute. She has scored in each game this season.

The Lynx defense held strong in the second half as the Warhawks held a 6-4 shot advantage.

Their fourth shutout of the year, Rhodes will now take on No. 10-ranked WashU Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET in the championship match of the DePauw Challenge Cup. WashU advanced after defeating DePauw 4-1.
