Granville, Ohio - Rhodes College men's lacrosse saw their 2019 campaign come to an end Saturday afternoon after the Lynx fell to No. 9 Denison University 11-7.
Denison opened the game with a 5-0 lead after the seven and a half minutes. The Lynx responded with a pure hat trick from freshman
Jonathon Hazlehurst to close out the quarter. After scoring the first goal for Rhodes, Hazlehurst netted his second goal just 27 seconds later on an assist from senior
Tyler Milwit.
Addison Mueller continued Rhodes' scoring streak to open the second quarter when he scored with 9:39 left in the first half to pull Rhodes within one of the Big Red. Denison answered with three straight goals before scoring the only two goals of the third quarter to lead 10-4. The Lynx would hold a 3-1 advantage in the fourth quarter, which included two man-up goals from Mueller for Rhodes' second hat trick of the game.
Christian Cisneros assisted Mueller's final two goals while Milwit assisted
Matt Perez on Rhodes' sixth goal of the game.
Senior
Cameron Link made 14 saves in cage for Rhodes while
Alexi Thomas picked up a team-high five ground balls.
Rhodes finished the year 16-4, breaking the program win mark (14) from 2017 and 2018. The Lynx tied their season-high win streak (eight) and broke multiple team records including goals, assists, points, saves, caused turnovers, ground balls and face-offs won in a season.
Individually,
Christian Cisneros is the new single season assist record holder (46) as well as the single season points record holder (68). He also tied a program record for assists in a game after recording six in the SAA semifinal against Sewanee.
J.J. Hoots has crushed the records for ground balls (121) and face-off wins (203) Twice, including the season opener, Hoots picked up 19 face-off wins, breaking the previous mark of 18 wins in a game.
Cameron Link's 13 saves is another new record as is his 226 saves this year. He also has the single game career save record after recording 21 saves against Tranyslvania. Link ends the season, improving his career records for wins and saves.
