Bloomington, Ill. - For the fifth straight year, Rhodes College women's lacrosse finished their season in the NCAA Tournament. The 2019 season saw the Lynx fall to Hamline University 11-9 in the first round on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Lynx went up 4-1 over the Pipers as rain fell steadily during the contest. Rhodes scored the first three goals of the game, including the first on an
Aidan Pike free position shot less than a minute and a half into the game. Hamline then went on a 3-1 run before Rhodes finished the half with three straight goals. The final two were both from
Baylee Barker and assisted by
Payton Bennett.
With Rhodes leading 7-3, the Pipers scored eight straight goals to open the second half before Barker finished the game with two goals in the final five minutes of play. Rhodes was limited to six shots in the second half after Hamline held a 9-2 draw control advantage.
In the game,
Lauren Lazure made nine saves including five in the first half. Barker finished the game with five goals while
Madison Rubino picked up three draw controls. Pike totaled two goals and Bennett finished the game with four points, totaling three assists and one goal. Rhodes' final goal of the game came from
Izzy Parker.
The Lynx end the season a 13-4 record. Barker led Rhodes with 94 points including 75 goals. She also led the team with 21 caused turnovers and 104 draw controls. Lazure, who broke the single season record for saves earlier in the year, set the new mark at 155 saves during her junior campaign. She also recorded 18 saves against Denison, breaking the single game save record as well.
