Sewanee, Tenn. - Rhodes College softball tallied 16 hits to defeat Sewanee 16-0 Sunday in five innings. The Lynx recorded 11 runs in the second inning on their way to their third straight shutout over the Tigers. On the weekend, Rhodes went 7-0, 10-0, and 16-0, totaling 41 hits.
The Lynx, who are now 22-8 on the season, scored two runs in the first inning when
Jill Healy doubled in
Anna Kula and
Kendall Henry. Healy would go on to triple in the second and a two-run homer in the fifth, just one single short of hitting for the cycle. Last year she recorded her first career cycle which also included a walk.
Bri Maniscalco sat the Tigers down in order on flyouts in the first before the Lynx roped in 11 runs on nine hits including four doubles, a walk, hit by pitch and two Tiger errors.
In the second inning,
Abby Pons entered the circle and would go on to earn her first career win after tossing four innings. In the third,
Taylor Clark doubled in
Shannon Tierney for the lone run of the inning before Healy finished scoring in the fifth with her home run. Pons ended the game with a strikeout and two groundouts in the fifth.Â
Rhodes tallied seven doubles and three stolen bases in the win as Healy totaled five RBI and scored twice.
Haley Rath went 3-for-3 and was one of 10 Lynx to score and one of six who scored twice.Â
The Lynx, who have now won six games in a row, face non-conference foe Blue Mountain College on Thursday, April 11 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.Â
