Rome, Ga. - Rhodes College softball fell 7-5 and 5-0 to Berry College on the road Saturday. The final game of the series will be on Sunday at noon ET.
Game One
After Berry took a 5-0 lead,
Jill Healy hit a single up the middle to score
Peyton Clark in the third inning to eliminate the shutout. Berry scored again in the following inning before
Kendall Henry earned her first RBI of the day in the fifth on a single. A Viking triple in the sixth game the hosts a 7-2 lead, but Henry hit a three-run shot to center to cut that lead to two with zero outs in the top of the seventh. Berry sent in a relief pitcher and
Haley Rath then walked and took second base. With the tying run at the plate,
Lauren King sent the ball to the shortstop who fired to first base. King was called out on the tag and the Vikings then threw to third where Rath was called out despite an earful from Lynx fans. Berry got out of the jam on a foul by their own dugout down the third base line.
Rhodes tallied nine hits in the game despite Berry's starting pitcher, Meredith Holland striking out seven Lynx.
Game Two
Berry scored all five runs in the sixth inning on four hits and two walks, including a three-run home run and two doubles. Rhodes earned six hits in the game.
Henry went 2-for-4 in both games and tallied four RBI while
Marisa Moore went 3-for-4 in game one.
