Telli Breaks 30-Year Walk Records as Lynx Defeat Centre to Open SAA Tournament

Conway, Ark. -  Rhodes College baseball senior Jacob Telli had a memorable day to open his final Southern Athletic Association Tournament. The Hendersonville, Tenn. native broke the single season and career walk records for the Lynx dating back to 1985 and 1988. Telli walked in his first two plate appearances breaking the career walk record (112) before getting hit by a pitch. In his fourth appearance, he tallied his third walk of the day to break Rhodes' single season record (42). With two more walks he will break the conference single season record.

The No. 4 seeded Lynx defeated No. 5 seeded Centre 8-7 Friday in the opening round. Centre went up 3-0 before Rhodes plated five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Lynx scored on a walk, fielder's choice, passed ball and six hits including a two-run home run from Ryan Palermo to take the lead. After starting pitcher Nick Bosma sat the Colonels down in order in the fourth, the Lynx then took an 8-3 lead in the bottom half of the inning on three hits, a hit by pitch, error and sac bunt. Palermo singled in two runs to finish scoring for the Lynx.

Centre tried to make a comeback with a leadoff home run in the sixth before they plated another run in the inning to trail by three. Centre also tallied lone runs in the seventh and eighth before Trey Sledge came in and picked up the save for the Lynx, stranding a runner on second base.

Palermo finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBI, a walk and a run scored. Telli tallied three walks (113th career) and scored twice while Wood Kimbrough scored twice and tallied two RBI.

Bosma earned the win after six innings of work.

Rhodes will face No. 8 seeded Millsaps at 11 a.m. Saturday.
