Memphis - Rhodes College softball celebrated senior day prior to their final doubleheader of the regular season. The Lynx defeated Hendrix 9-6 in game one before concluding their home games with a 7-3 loss.
Game One
Hendrix opened the day with two runs after the Lynx committed three errors. Rhodes retaliated with three runs in the bottom of the second on five hits while also taking advantage of a Warrior throwing error. Each team went down in order in the fourth before Hendrix tied the game on a sac fly to center field. Two singles to open the bottom half of the fourth allowed
Marisa Moore to sac bunt in
Anna Kula for the lead before
Kendall Henry singled up the middle to plate
Peyton Clark. With two outs,
Jill Healy singled to put Henry at third who eventually scored on a
Shannon Tierney single to the shortstop.Â
Rhodes led 6-3 until a two-run home run brought Hendrix within one in the fifth but the Lynx earned those back in the bottom half of the inning on a hit, Hendrix fielding error, wild pitch, sac bunt and stole base. Rhodes led 8-5 when another Hendrix error allowed the Lynx to score their final run in the sixth inning. Hendrix earned back the run on a final fielding error by the Lynx in the seventh. Both teams recorded five errors in the game while Rhodes compiled 12 hits. Kula went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI while pitcher
Lauren King walked three times and picked up her 13th win of the year. Maniscalco came in to get the final out of the game and the save.Â
Game Two
Hendrix led off the first two innings with solo home runs and after a three-run third inning, took a 5-1 lead as more errors hurt the Lynx. Rhodes reached first to lead off the bottom of the third on a Warrior error, ultimately plating a run after
Haley Rath singled to left field. Hendrix led 5-2 until they rallied for two runs in the seventh on three hits, two walks and a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the inning, a double put Healy into scoring position. She would later score on a Hendrix fielding error.Â
Clark went 3-for-3 in game two with a walk and run scored, the only Lynx to earn more than one hit in the final game of the regular season.Â
Rhodes is now 24-14 after the regular season and finish with a 10-7 record. The Lynx will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. next weekend for the SAA Tournament.Â
