California - Rhodes College women's tennis defeated Whittier 7-2 Friday and swept Bakersville College 9-0 on Saturday to finish match play in California for the week. The Lynx are now 5-1 on the season.
Whittier
Rhodes almost swept doubles, but fell in the No. 1 slot 11-9 in a tiebreaker.
Michelle Adan-Pol and
Dasha Safarian got revenge on their opponents by defeating each in the top singles competitions with Safarian winning the deciding match. Other singles wins included
Kate McGough (No. 3- 6-2, 6-1),
Dallas Bennett (No. 4- 6-2, 6-3) and
Madeleine McDonald at No. 6-singles (6-4, 5-7, 10-5).
Bakersfield
Rhodes shutout Bakerfield 8-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, as well as 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 (Safarian) and No. 5-singles (
Mia Mullen). The Renegades only took one set from the third, fourth and sixth singles matches. Adan-Pol hung on at No. 1-singles for the 6-4, 6-2 victory to ensure the sweep.
Rhodes will return to Memphis and host Christian Brothers University (9 a.m.) and Bethel (4 p.m.) on Saturday, March 16.
